Luke and Christina got married!!!
Mark’s son Luke got married to Christina Martin on June 9. It was a beautiful wedding, held at the Riddering’s home. Sue worked hard to see that thousands of beautiful wildflowers bloomed just in time, and the rest of the back yard looked spectacular as well. They were married by our pastor and Christina’s brother, Josh Martin. Luke swept Christina up for the recessional to “Eye of the Tiger” (Rocky theme song).
Check out a few pictures in our photos section! We were helped all along the way by amazing family and friends… without whom it would have been impossible. Once again, we felt incredibly blessed to have the aid of so many wonderful people! Thank you to all of you who helped–you made it a perfect day! Check out the Photos section to see more pictures!
In other news, Sara visited the doctor again (on June 12). She got the frequency of her device turned up this time. So, now she receives 0.5 millivolts every 5 minutes (it was every 15 minutes before). She also got the go-ahead to start reducing one of the bad meds. It will be an adjustment as I hear it can be hard to come off of them. But, she seems to be adjusting well so far, with just normal tiredness. We keep praying that God will sustain her and are sooo happy about the dramatic improvement!!! She still has not had a grand mal seizure since the device was turned on–amazing! Praise and thanks to God for using this device.

Sara had her surgery yesterday. The doctor was happy with the outcome and she was able to leave the hospital that night. We continue to ask for your prayers though. This is going to be a long process. They won’t turn on the device until she heals from the surgery. Then they will slowly up the voltage of the device over the next two years. This means that the surgery’s true effectiveness won’t be known for some time now. Please pray that Sara would heal from the surgery, and that this new therapy would be effective at controlling and even stopping her seizures.
On a lighter note, Sara’s kids, Seth and Hana, were able to enjoy a wonderful day at Disneyland yesterday. Several friends were able to come with us, and the day was made possible by our friend Dan Curtis (Thanks Dan!). This was Seth and Hana’s first ever trip to the Magic Kingdom. They have both been and continue to be such a wonderful blessing to this family!

Our fund raising BBQ was a fantastic success!!!!
Our church family and our great community pulled together and put on a Santa Maria style BBQ to help raise money for Sara’s surgery. Thanks to the very hard work of many loved ones and the amazing generosity of all, a profit of $14,560 was raised!!!!
A very sincere thank you to those who came all the way from Oxnard PD and Ventura County Sheriff’s, bringing with them a very generous gift!!!
Our family also humbly thanks all who were involved in putting this on. You were all tremendous; it was a lot of hard work! Know that we understand how blessed we are to have you in our lives (although, I’m sure we don’t appreciate you half as much as you deserve!). Many thanks to our organizers: the Kliewer and Franklin families.
How bountifully our God supplies our needs!!! The day was full of excellent food, great fellowship and a tremendous outpouring of support. It was beautiful. If you weren’t able to make it—you missed out on the food, but you can relive the day by visiting our pictures section!
When you’re done reliving the BBQ… Relax over a good new story from Randy Janes! (Thanks Randy!)
We do still plead for your prayers. Sara had a disappointment last Wednesday—the surgeon’s office called and canceled her appointment an hour before it was scheduled (for no reason that we know of). This was after they had already driven down! Most frustrating was that they rescheduled for March 28th, which obviously sets back the surgery. Still, we know that our hope is not in doctors or new procedures. We ask for prayers that Sara’s brain would stay safe until the surgery. Also, please be praying that this surgery would be the means that God would chose to heal her. We are confident that His plan and ways are best!!
Again, thank you, thank you for your prayers. It is a blessing to be so supported!
